Governor Dayton Proclaims Sept. 16 “Ethanol Day” in Minnesota
Locally-owned Minnoco gas stations also begin Pink Out promotion, donating money to Hope Chest for Breast Cancer for every gallon of E15 Unleaded Plus sold through end of October
St. Paul, Minn. Growth Energy today applauded Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton for supporting clean, renewable biofuels that are moving America towards a more sustainable future by proclaiming Friday, September 16 “Ethanol Day,” a move that celebrates the positive impact ethanol has on the state’s economy, its environment and public health.

Ethanol is already in 97 percent of the gasoline sold in the United States, but beginning today, drivers in the Twin Cities region will be able to take advantage of higher blends of ethanol such as E15. This 21st century fueling option gives drivers a choice at the pump that reduces greenhouse gas emissions while providing their engines more horsepower at a reduced price point. There are currently 46 gas stations in Minnesota that offer E15 – with more on the way (see complete list below).

“We are thankful that Governor Dayton chose to celebrate the tremendous benefits of cleaner, cooler burning biofuels by declaring today Ethanol Day across Minnesota,” said Emily Skor, CEO of Growth Energy. “Drivers can now fuel their cars with E15 and receive the added advantages of increased horsepower and decreased emissions. It’s an exciting time for all who value cleaner air and enhanced vehicle performance.”
September 16 is also the beginning of Minnoco’s “Pink Out” promotion, where 22 locally-owned Minnoco gas stations around the Twin Cities that will be donating two cents from every gallon sold of E15 Unleaded Plus gasoline from now through the end of October to the local charity Hope Chest for Breast Cancer. E15 contains five percent more ethanol than standard gasoline, displacing more toxic chemicals that form potent carcinogens when burned – the same carcinogens linked to smog and asthma.

“We are excited about the opportunity to support fueling the fight against breast cancer and introducing more local consumers to the benefits of E15 Unleaded Plus during Minnoco’s Pink Out,” said Lance Klatt, executive director of Minnoco. “Ethanol is a high-performance biofuel that our customers have told us they value, so we are proud to offer them broader access to this renewable fuel. We invite area residents to stop by a station, pitch in for a good cause and drive away with E15 Unleaded Plus powering their cars.”

Minnoco’s Pink Out promotion encourages drivers to take advantage of E15 Unleaded Plus, with a donation from every sale going to Hope Chest for Breast Cancer. The theme for the promotion is “Fueling the Fight Against Breast Cancer.” Pink nozzle hand guards and splash guards at the pump identify the fuel eligible for the promotion. In 2015, Minnoco raised $13,000 for Hope Chest and is targeting raising $20,000 in 2016.

“Partnering with Minnoco on this great cause is something we are very proud of,” continued Skor. ““Ethanol has enabled the removal of cancer-causing additives from our fuel supply, making it ideally suited for this charity drive.”

Minnoco is leading the way here in Minnesota by responding to consumer demand for E15, and their choice is paying off. Drivers are embracing biofuels like E15 because they recognize the benefits of cleaner air, fewer toxic emissions and improved engine performance.
